COVID-19 Information

COVID-19 InformationThe Manhattan Surgical Hospital wants to assure the communities we serve that we are taking a multifaceted approach to assure the safety of those entrusted in our care. We are working closely with local healthcare agencies and follow recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and Kansas Department of Health and Environment.

What is COVID-19:

COVID-19 is a virus that emerged from Wuhan, China in December 2019. Diagnosis can be difficult by physical exam because mild cases may appear similar to the flu or a bad cold. A laboratory test can confirm the diagnosis.

How is it spread:

It is spread from person to person through droplets in the air when an infected person coughs or sneezes.

What are the symptoms:

  • Fever or chills
  • Cough
  • Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
  • Fatigue
  • Muscle or body aches
  • Headache
  • New loss of taste or smell
  • Sore throat
  • Congestion or runny nose
  • Nausea or vomiting
  • Diarrhea

Many individuals do not show symptoms or symptoms are mild enough that the individual may not suspect COVID-19.
How to protect yourself:

  • Wash your hands frequently with soap and water for 20 seconds or use hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol.
  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
  • Maintain social distancing from other people (at least 6 feet).
  • Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.
  • Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces daily.
  • Wear masks in public settings and when around people outside of your household, especially when other social distancing measures are difficult to maintain.

What should you do if you think you have COVID-19:

  • Call your primary care physician for guidance. Do not go directly to clinic or hospital.

What is the Manhattan Surgical Hospital doing to prevent the spread of COVID-19:

The Manhattan Surgical Hospital wants to assure the communities we serve that we are taking a multifaceted approach to assure the safety of those entrusted in our care.

Patients, visitors, and staff are screened daily for signs and symptoms and exposure to COVD-19 prior to or upon entry to facility.

Masks are not required when the community is not in HIGH COVID-19 community transmission rate unless one of the following exist:

  • You are experiencing respiratory or COVID-19 symptoms
  • You have been exposed to COVID-19 in the last 10 days
  • You are immunocompromised or at high risk

We encourage social distancing, respiratory/cough etiquette, and good hand hygiene.

We have an enhanced cleaning and sanitizing schedule throughout the facility.

  • All visitors must be 18 years and older.
  • Patients and Visitors must wear a procedure mask unless in an inpatient room.
